Anna's hummingbird, male, deceased

He was on the path. I was surprised, because I had seen a female the day before within a few feet of where I found this one. I have never seen a dead hummingbird before this, and I can't imagine how they died to end up in the middle of a path with their wings spread. They are such lovely creatures.
